What Makes Maimai Different From The Rest
‘I have my own personal good taste. I have knack of putting elements together and making it a nice, widely appreciated ‘whole’. I’m talking about style, about coming up with ‘The LOOK’. Surely, part of this comes from the fact that I’ve chosen to expose myself to different cultures, people, ways of living, and in the process I’ve enriched and broadened myself, my art, my style like no other person – especially from my age group. I know the importance and the ‘how’ to ‘package’ myself.
Other Skills And Interests
I’m interested in researching, ‘polling’ people’s opinions and experimenting. All these I absolutely enjoy and are extremely essential in the field I am in.
I believe everything I do outside school or work greatly affects my chosen field. During my free time, I still draw and design other things using various mediums [like watercolor etc.]. All these affect my outlook- the way I see things. I’ve trained myself to hear a song, see a picture, watch a movie, observe people in their natural surroundings – anything and everything I can sense. All these come together as a coherent whole- applicable to a future design, something predictive, an ‘is’ or ‘will’ become – the next thing to have, to wear, to hear, to admire.
The simple idea and manner of having a wide outlook in life and acting upon it, is in itself a means of enhancing the abilities I already have, because to me the field of fashion is specific, but fashion in itself is not. Fashion is a manner – a style, the way you do things. It’s the kind of music you compose, the way you act and dance, your choice of music. It’s something based on the past and is modified, carried on to the future.
Artistic Background And Inspirations
I’ve always been artistically oriented – even at a very young age. Although I’ve always drawn to music, I chose to design, to draw and to style instead.
I moved to Italy a few months after college and have stayed there ever since. So far, I’ve studied clothes making, knitwear [a year and a half to Polimoda], and spent my last year learning how to work with leather and making bags with it as well as with other materials. I currently work as designer for Segue Bags in Italy.
Personal Experience As An Artist, Local and International
A few years back, I auditioned and was chosen as the lead in the play ‘West Side Story’. However, I decided not to pursue it due to the conflicts in my schedule. I designed my first-ever t-shirt line called ‘MAI SHIRT’ when I was 14 years old. I’ve also designed line during the ‘themed restaurant’ hype days. Most recently, I worked in Accessories of Benetton in Florence as an apprentice designing bags and doing material research.
